Magnavox HDTV
For the highest quality and crystal clear picture your
choice in a HDTV should be the new Magnavox HDTV. Next
year all networks will be only broadcasting in HD.
Do your research now and compare the HDTV's now available in
the stores.
If you are not one of those who keeps up on the newest
technology and has to have the latest gadgets as soon they come
on the market you are probably asking "what is HDTV?" HDTV
stands for "High Definition Television" and will soon replace
traditional TV also referred to as SDTV.
The United States plans to replace full-power analog
broadcasting with HDTV in February 2009 (some smaller local
stations have later deadlines.) All new TV's will need to be
equipped with HDTV tuners. There are HD tuner adapters that can
be rented or purchased to enable your analog set to broadcast
in HDTV.
With the majority of TV's being purchased today are large
screen HDTV's this has decreased the need for standard
definition TV (SDTV.)
Watching the standard stations with an HDTV does not improve
the picture quality on these channels, in some cases the
picture is inferior due to the scaling effects.
To receive the high definition signal that most major
networks use to broadcast their shows an HD tuner is necessary.
Magnavox HDTV setshave the HD tuner already built in. If you
have a TV that does not have a built in HD tuner, there are HD
tuner boxes can be rented from a cable or satellite company or
a Magnavox HD tuner box can be purchased.
Three descriptions of HDTV picture quality are: First, the
vertical display resolution is defined by the number of lines.
Secondly, the Progressive Scanning or Interlaced Scanning
system. Progressive is noted with a "p" and Interlaced is noted
with an "i". Progressive scanning displays a complete image
frame (all the lines) per image. Interlaced scanning displays
only a partial image (every second line) during a first pass,
completing the remaining lines during a second pass. Thirdly,
the number of frames per second or fields per second.
When doing your research a frame or field rate may be
specified with just "24p" which would mean 24 progressive scan
frames per second, or "50i" which would mean 25 interlaced
frames per second consisting of 50 interlaced fields per
second. These terms are helpful to know when dealing with a
high powered television salesman.
Knowing the technical jargon before going shopping should help
when making your final decision. Hopefully you are a little
clearer and not more confused about HDTV. We believe after
doing your research on the HDTV brands available you will come
to the same conclusion we have. The Magnavox HDTV may well have
the most crystal clear HD picture when compared to the
rest.
