Cable TV Service
Providers
Are you wondering how satellite and cable TV service
providers stack up against each other when it comes
to matters like costs, packages and programming? Read this
article for
a couple of pointers on how to select the right digital
service provider for your household. When it comes to services,
cable and satellite companies offer similar services.
A couple of important benefits that cable TV service
providers offer include: Converged or independent billing of
expanding service offerings with their cable TV services. On
demand is one of the services offered which enables content
delivery. With the onslaught of new and exciting IP based
services, cable service providers are able to maintain a
competitive edge over alternative technologies.
The big driver for home nets among cable TV service
providers has been demand for digital video recording
capabilities throughout the home. Cable TV service providers
are taking a go-slow approach to home networking, in part due
to big concerns about support issues. They have been seen as
the most likely players to roll out home-networking
technologies, but to date few have done so. If homeowners get
these services, they will have to buy equipment that is
compatible.
In IPTV, interactive digital television service is delivered
over an Internet connection. Users will also get new services
such as video on demand where they can watch their favorite
movies for a fee. They can pause, fast forward and rewind live
and recorded content stored on a remotely located server by the
service provider. However, their cables are unable to carry
high definition programming in any substantial quantity and
this is a major barrier that stands in their way. This is the
one thing that hinders cable TV service providers the most in
their efforts to provide high definition programming.
Cable TV service providers use the word -Premium- too
loosely when describing their movie programming in their
advertising propaganda these days, so its buyer beware if you
are considering a subscription to any movie programming. Cable
and satellite providers complain that "a la carte" pricing or
tiers would drive up costs for equipment, customer service and
marketing, charges that would likely be passed to subscribers.
Also, there are some service providers starting to charge for
support, but in the long term they should not be trying to make
money this way.
The common practice of having only one firm provide cable TV
service at a multifamily community is about to change. Several
voted for an end to exclusive access deals between cable TV
service providers and multifamily communities, which includes
apartments and townhomes. While the ruling -- expected to go
into effect next month -- affects multifamily complexes as well
as some single-family residential neighborhoods with
centralized management, some companies are exempt: satellite
and data providers, and even landlords that provide cable
service to their own tenants. The ruling only applies to
franchised cable TV service providers such as Bright House
Networks and Comcast, and franchised telephone service
providers, such as AT&T. The ruling is retroactive for the
cable TV service providers, which means existing exclusive
agreements will be void. Providers generally install and own
their cable wiring systems, and if another provider is chosen,
a new system would need to be installed and maintained.
Instead of settling for the limited channel selection
offered by cable TV, more Americans are now opting for the very
best in comprehensive and entertaining programming. Several
television services offer a wide variety of channels, including
movie channels like HBO, Showtime and Cinemax. However,
innovative features are being added to cable TV services all
the time, causing cable TV to become a necessary household
staple. Providers are becoming more flexible to offer services
tailored to fit your requirements.
